The body of a teenage girl was found in a garbage dump three days after she was reported missing in the town of Esteli, Nicaragua. Police indicated that the murder weapon had traces of the blood of the victim's boyfriend, who was captured as the main suspect.

The teenager was identified as Britney Oliva, 17. When she was only 6 years old, the young Nicaraguan girl was discovered by a network promoting children's rights and the environment in her country, for her effort in enforcing the rights of all children, according to an article published Monday by Univision.

Oliva became a promoter for the children's club in Jinotega, Nicaragua, and during her last year of high school, she was already a radio announcer at that institution.

In the months before her murder, the young woman dedicated much of her time to raising awareness about teen pregnancy. She even shared a video in which she acted like a girl defending her right not to have an abortion despite her partner forcing her to make that decision.

The Murder of Britney Oliva

Oliva never imagined that she would experience the same situation she advocated for in her awareness-raising videos.

Her grandmother Santos Isidra Meza told the media that the young woman came home every day at 8:00 p.m., but she did not return one night. The next day her family handed out flyers with her photograph, hoping to obtain some information about her whereabouts.

Three days after her disappearance, a town resident found Oliva's body in a garbage dump. She had more than 30 stab wounds. Authorities say that, based on the body's position, the young woman probably tried to call for help.

A primary investigation showed that the young woman was pregnant and that she was last seen with her boyfriend on a motorcycle. As a result, authorities began a search for the young man, Univision continues.

Oliva's boyfriend was found at the border while trying to flee the country. Major Commissioner Alejandro Ruíz, head of the Estelí police, said that "the blood found on the knife belonged to the young man." Despite the brutality of the murder, the young man will not be able to spend more than six years in prison because he is a minor.

The investigation also revealed that Oliva was murdered because she had refused to have an abortion, something her boyfriend had demanded.

Although the young man is already in custody, the family is also seeking to have him charged with patricide, considering that he killed not only Britney but also the baby in her womb.
