World famous singer songwriter Taylor Alison Swift isn’t quite “Out of the Woods” yet. In fact, she’s in a little trouble with NYC’s not so finest—the city’s Sanitation Department, according to a Saturday report published by The New York Post.
Since the Pennsylvania native bought a three-story townhouse at 153 Franklin St. in Manhattan’s downtown Tribeca area in October 2017 for a whopping $18 million, Swift has received 32 tickets for a total of $3,010.
The tickets were the result of Swift allegedly neglecting to maintain her townhome’s sidewalks and keep them in clean condition.
But the “You Belong to Me” singer isn’t taking the tickets lying down. Instead, she’s decided to assert her innocence and fight the tickets with a crack team of lawyers.
Swift, who Forbes reports has a net worth of $570 million has successfully removed $200 worth of the tickets so far.
According to the Post, “between January 2018 and January 2023, Sanitation inspectors dinged Swift, 33, for failing to clean the area in front of her building, having a dirty sidewalk, and improperly disposing of garbage.
“Over the years, the unsightly stream of grime has included piles of newspapers, bottles and cardboard; napkins and wrappers; and “scattered ashtray contents” and a cigarette carton, according to the summonses.”
The Post interviewed a few of Swift’s neighbors who had mixed reports. One 22-year-old dog walker told the newspaper Swift neglects her sidewalk, saying, “she doesn’t care about leaving trash out… I think she’s more focused on her multi-million dollar tour that’s bankrupting all her fans.”
Swift isn’t the first celebrity to live in the posh downtown townhouse. It was previously rented by former International Monetary Fund director Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who paid $50,000 a month while he was on house arrest in 2011. The international politico was accused of sexually assaulting a NYC hotel housekeeper, but the charges were ultimately dismissed.
Swift has reportedly since expanded the townhouse by purchasing nearby units and adjoining them, spending a total of an estimated $30 million.
The Post said both buildings have been issued tickets from the city, but the pop star is ultimately the one who’s charged with keeping the front of her townhouse clear.
A former landlord for Swift said he doubts the allegations, suggesting maybe passersby are littering, explaining she was a model tenant.
“She was nothing but a perfect tenant the entire time and lovely to deal with,” said David Aldea, who previously served as an executive for Soho House. “I have nothing but positive things to say about her.”
While the singer’s townhouse has reportedly been issued more violations than any other on the block, she probably has more important priorities.
City records show since purchasing the townhouse, Swift’s glorified mudroom and garage has racked up the most sanitation tickets of any building on the block.
Her new album “Speak Now” is being released July 7, next Friday shortly after Independence Day.
