A 15-year-old is in critical condition after hitting his head while riding on top of a 7 train in Queens on Thursday evening.

Police believe the boy was riding on top of a southbound 7 train on elevated tracks when he hit his head on an unknown object, causing severe head trauma.

The teen was found unconscious on the roof of the train car at the 111th Street station in North Corona at around 6:30 p.m.

Images and videos of the incident show the teen lying on top of the train with intense bleeding. Paramedics and officers helped lift the teen from the top of the train and placed him on the subway platform, where he continued to bleed.

The teen was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The 15-year-old’s identity has not yet been released.

This week’s incident is just the latest in a string of subway surfing stunts and the second in two weeks.

Earlier this month, a group of eight people was caught surfing on a New York City subway car crossing the Williamsburg Bridge into the Lower East Side. The group was seen dancing and running on top of the train.

Last October, a 32-year-old man died while surfing on top of a J train when he fell to his death and was run over at Essex Street. Similarly, in 2019, a 14-year-old boy was killed while riding a Manhattan-bound 7 train.

“Riding on top of a subway car is reckless, extremely dangerous and inconsiderate as it causes significant delays for other New Yorkers,” said Pat Warren, MTA Chief Safety and Security Officer.

“Seeking a thrill that promises heartache for family and friends is foolhardy; choose other avenues to have some fun, ones that demonstrate respect for those you care about,” he continued.
