NYPD reported that Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst took her own life on Sunday by jumping off a building in New York.
Kryst was found dead in the middle of the street after jumping from the 60-story luxury Orion building at 350 W. 42nd St. around 7:15 a.m.
The young beauty queen lived on the ninth floor of the building and was seen on the 29th floor terrace moments before she jumped. According to police reports, she was alone at the time.
"It is with devastation and great sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie. It was her great light that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength... she loved, laughed, and shone," the former beauty queen's family said in a statement on Sunday.
Just hours before the fatal outcome, Kryst wrote on her Instagram page, "May this day bring you rest and peace."
Kryst also worked as a reporter for ExtraTV, a job that allowed her to meet some of the biggest stars in show business.
"Cheslie wasn't just a vital part of our program. She was a beloved part of our Extra family and touched the entire staff. Our deepest condolences go out to all of her family and friends," said Extra TV.
Kryst left a note saying she wanted to leave everything to her mother, reported NY Post. However, the message did not include a reason for her actions.
Cheslie Kryst was born in Jackson, Michigan, and graduated from a College in South Carolina. She graduated from the Darla Moore School of Business and Wake Forest University School of Law.
She won Miss North Carolina and Miss USA in 2019, the first year that all four of the country's top beauty pageant titles were won by black women.
