A viral video shows the moment a man climbed inside a garbage shoot in Brooklyn before being found dead in the trash compactor below.

The surveillance footage shared by the New York Post shows three individuals in the hallway of a Bedford Stuyvesant building at about 4 a.m., 15 minutes before he was found dead at the bottom of the shoot.

The man is seen talking to another man before opening the chute’s hatch and stepping inside.

At that moment, another woman joins. She holds the bottom of the hatch open for him, to help him get in properly.

The man shimmies into the small space and then lets go, falling down the shute. The other two lean inside to see. The man holds up his cellphone either to light up the chute or to record.

Investigators found his body cut up near the compactor portion. It is unknown if he died from the fall or found his way into the compactor. An autopsy is scheduled to determine how he died.

The man is thought to be in his 50s. He has not yet been identified.

Police do not know why the man went into the chute, however, some speculate that he might have dropped his keys.

“If you throw your keys in the incinerator, leave them,” said retiree Anthony Gordon, 60 who lives on the fourth floor. “You can always get more keys made, but you can’t get another life.”
