A partially decomposed body was found floating in New York City’s Central Park on Friday afternoon, authorities announced.

The body was found in the lake near 79th Street and West Drive, near the Rambles, at around 2 p.m. by a Central Park Conservancy maintenance worker.

Police closed off the area surrounding the lake, while rescuers arrived at the scene to retrieve the body from the water.

Authorities identified said the body belonged to a male in his 20s. The body was found fully clothed and decomposed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police do not believe any foul play was involved in the man’s death. However, authorities do not know how the body might have ended up in the water.

An investigation was opened to determine the official cause of death. The body will be examined by the city’s medical examiner.

This is a developing story.
