The body of a 13-year-old missing girl was found floating in the water in New York City’s Brooklyn Bridge Park on Monday, the New York Police Department reported.

The girl's body was found facedown near the shore close to the Fulton Ferry Landing pier in Brooklyn heights at about 8:25 a.m. local time. She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The girl’s body showed no signs of trauma. However, the city’s medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Police do not believe she was the victim of a crime.

Police said that the teenage girl, identified as Jade Smith, had been reported missing on Sunday at around 11 p.m. by her mother, Suyapa Martinez. Jade suffered from bipolar disorder and depression, according to police sources.

The girl allegedly called 911 from her cellphone at around 9:34 p.m. on Sunday, claiming that she was “going to jump.” However, the phone call was disconnected and it remained unclear where she was threatening to jump from, the Daily Mail reported.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Jade’s death comes a few days after another New York City teenager jumped from the roof of a nine-story apartment building in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The 17-year-old girl jumped from her family’s apartment at around 12:54 on Sunday, while her mother and her sister were home.
