Actress Bette Midler turned against political correctness when she took offense to referring to women as "menstruators" or "birthing people," both terms the left uses to include the transgender community.
In a message Monday addressed to "WOMEN OF THE WORLD!" the 76-year-old Midler wrote: "We are being stripped of our rights over our bodies, our lives and even of our name!"
No stranger to controversy, after criticizing the Supreme Court's decision to overrule Roe v. Wade, her Fourth of July tweet criticized the language used by transgender activists to refer to biological women, including those who identify as men.
"They don’t call us 'women' anymore; they call us 'birthing people' or 'menstruators', and even 'people with vaginas'! Don’t let them erase you! Every human on earth owes you!" she wrote.
Activists responded by criticizing Midler.
"The fight for women’s rights INCLUDES trans people - trans rights do not erode women’s rights. We’re all fighting this together and this trans-exclusionary rhetoric does NOTHING to help that," replied "Crystal," a former contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race UK. "Bette - you are a woman. Some other people who give birth are not women. That’s ok!"
Writer and queer activist Benjamin Law said: "Oh Bette. Trans people and those who love and support them have no problem with the term or concept of 'women'. We're just after inclusive language when appropriate and needed, to ensure often-vulnerable people are included and protected. It ain't hard."
Irish drag queen "Dr Panti Bliss-Cabrera" told Midler: "Don’t fall for the anti-trans panic fake nonsense. No one is erasing women. In a few small healthcare cases where appropriate they are using trans inclusive language. That’s all."
Conservatives replied by pointing out the views of Midler's liberal colleagues.
"If you think that's bad, just wait til you see what your leftist friends are doing with women's sports!" comedian and Washington Times columnist Tim Young wrote.
"Who's 'they' that are changing these terms?" asked the conservative Libs of TikTok account.
