A NYC sex worker has proposed a new economic indicator – attendance at strip clubs.
Twitter user @botticellibimbo posted that the state of her workplace tells her all she needs to know about the economy.
“The strip club is sadly a leading indicator and I can promise y’all we [are] in a recession lmao,” she tweeted on Thursday, referring to how attendance could be used to predict the future of the market.

“Me getting stock alerts just to decide whether it’s worth it go to work,” she added.
Her Twitter profile says she lives and/or works between New York City and Houston, Texas.
Her peers in the industry posted in agreement.
“Nah fr reading all these articles journalists and economists are like we’re not in a recession we might not even get one this year or next… like the club is dead babe wym,” replied Lana Agave, a stripper and content creator on OnlyFans.

The “strip club index” would join other slightly offensive economic indicators like the “hot waitress index,” which posits servers are more attractive during a recession because they cannot leverage their looks toward higher-paying jobs in a tight labor market.
A club owner in Missouri said his club was “down about 20% across the board” and that spending has recently skewed heavily toward credit over cash.
Botticellibabe, also known as reversecowgirl69, holds or is currently working towards a Master of Public Health from Columbia University, which is ranked #4 among public health grad schools by U.S. News & World Report, according to her profile.
“I go to a top 5 masters of public health program and I have learned more about public health from stripping for the past 4 years,” she said in another tweet.
She also maintains an Instagram for the books she reads.

Inflation has reached record levels under President Joe Biden, who recently celebrated skyrocketing gas prices as an “incredible transition” away from fossil fuels.
A Twitter user held a poll asking, “Who do yo believe more about the economy at this point: Biden or @boticellibimbo?”
95% voted for the stripper over the president as of Tuesday afternoon.
