A 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Guatemala early on Wednesday, killing two people, damaging buildings, and triggering landslides.
The earthquake was felt at 1:12 a.m. Two aftershocks of lesser magnitude, 5.0 and 4.8, were recorded with an epicenter close to the first event.
The earthquake’s epicenter near the town of Tiquisate, around 80 miles south of Guatemala City, and had a depth of 60 miles (96 km), reported the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED).

The earthquake caused landslides and damaged buildings in several provinces of Guatemala. As a result, several villages in Solola were left without power.

Authorities have reported two fatalities, one in Mixco, a suburb of Guatemala City, and a man in Quetzaltenango. Both died of heart attacks, reported Reuters.
The earthquake was also felt in Mexico and El Salvador. Last week, the region recorded 15 minor earthquakes off the Pacific Coast.
