Police arrested a Miami-Dade man Tuesday on charges of kidnapping and sexual assault after he allegedly falsely claimed to be an Uber driver.

Alberto Angulo López, 38, faces serious charges after appearing in court this Wednesday for a kidnapping and assault case that occurred on Feb. 28, 2023 around 4:30 a.m.

According to authorities, that morning two women were leaving a nightclub located at 743 Washington Avenue, in South Beach, when they noticed that their vehicle had been towed.

One of the women, confused, accepted a ride from Angulo, believing he was an Uber driver. They both got into the vehicle and the man took them to a tow yard.

When the friend got out of the vehicle to talk to the towing company, the victim woke up and saw that Angulo “touched her buttocks and breasts.” The arrest warrant indicates that the victim “went in and out of consciousness” after consuming several drinks that night.

The two women separated after having an argument. That's when the man agreed to take the victim to his home in Tamiami, west of Miami-Dade, but authorities said Angulo drove south.

During the trip, the police stated that Angulo “touched her private parts over her clothes,” even though she asked him to “stop.”

Luckily, the young woman managed to share her location with a known person, asking him to call the police if she did not reach her destination.

Angulo left the victim in a different location than the agreed upon location, demanding money before leaving. The monetary transaction helped identify the man.

“I don't know if he thought I was going to want to meet him again … he gave me his number for the ZELLE transfer ... Not only did he give me his number, but he also made me follow him on social media," the victim said.

According to police, his full name and photo appeared in his WhatsApp contact information.

Angulo López remains in custody without bail while the judicial process unfolds.
