Mario Diaz-Balart, a U.S. congressional representative for Florida's 25th district, has received the endorsement of former President Donald Trump for re-election in 2022.
"Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart has a strong record of leadership. He is an excellent representative of the people of South Florida. Mario is tough on crime, the Second Amendment, and is dedicated to low taxes and a strong economy. He is an advocate for our seniors and loves our great military and our veterans. Mario Diaz-Balart is a true fighter for our great country and has my full and complete endorsement!" said the former president in an announcement through Save America PAC.
Diaz-Balart was elected in 2002, and his district includes much of southwest Miami-Dade County, including Hialeah, and much of the northern Everglades.
"I am honored to have President Trump's support and endorsement for my re-election. I was privileged to work successfully with President Trump on key issues, including cutting taxes, confronting China, fighting the socialist agenda, and protecting American freedoms to improve the quality of life for all," said Díaz-Balart about Trump’s endorsement.

Although Diaz-Balart has crushed his rivals in previous races, the former president's support is a vital endorsement for the Cuban-American's reelection at a time when Trump still is very popular among Republicans.
Trump's endorsement is also a recognition of Diaz-Balart, who was a staunch ally during his administration.
Following the death of Representative Alcee Hastings in April 2021, Diaz-Balart became the longest-serving member of Florida's congressional delegation.
