A south Florida woman was arrested on Saturday after stabbing her husband more than 140 times and beating him with a butcher knife, NBC Miami reported.

The woman, identified as 61-year-old Joan P. Burke, was sent to the Palm Beach County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder after killing her partner Melvin Weller, 62, at their Palm Springs home on February 11, according to a police report obtained by WPTV.

Weller's stepson called 911 after he came home from work and found the man lying on the floor over a pool of blood that covered more than half of the kitchen.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they saw blood spatter and stains on the walls, kitchen cabinets, and counters. They also noticed a pair of knives and a butcher knife lying in the sink, the report continues.

Palm Springs Police found Burke lying on the bed in the master bedroom in an alert state, but she remained completely silent. She was transported to JFK Hospital for evaluation.

Investigators found cleaning tools on the floor near the victim's body. They concluded that it had been a violent struggle.

An autopsy revealed that Weller suffered more than 140 stab wounds and a skull fracture caused by a blow with a butcher knife.

Burke remains behind bars without bail, according to NBC Miami. Her attorney’s information is not available.
