A British man was sentenced to life in prison on Monday after raping a mother and her daughter repeatedly while on drugs.

Joshua Carney, 28, of Wales, allegedly made the teenage daughter watch while he raped her mother, and then forced the mother to watch while he did the same to her 14-year-old daughter.

The incident took place only five days after Carney, described as a “career burglar,” was released from prison after eight years for a series of burglaries.

Carney told police he had taken the drug Spice, which is a form of synthetic marijuana. He claimed that he couldn’t remember anything after taking the drug, reported the New York Post.

The mother and daughter said he forced his way into their home in Cardiff, Wales, and threatened them with a knife, according to BBC. The teen had locked herself up in her room and called the police. However, Carney eventually made his way into the bedroom.

“The defendant told the victim: ‘Stop f—ing screaming or I am going to stab you’,” a prosecutor revealed, reported Sky News. “She at that point didn’t know if the defendant was armed or not and became very concerned she and her daughter were going to end up seriously injured, if not killed, by the defendant.”

“Watch me, look what I am doing to her,” Carney told the mother while raping the daughter.

Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke called Carney a “deeply sadistic” man during the trial. “Your offending on that day was horrific, it was the stuff of nightmares,” she said.

Carney was charged with six counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, and two counts of assault by penetration. He will have to serve at least 10 years before being eligible for parole.
