The children of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will reportedly not be given His and Her Royal Highness titles – a decision that has left the embattled royals “furious.”

After tense negotiations, King Charles III, Harry’s father, has agreed to bestow the titles of prince and princess on his California-based grandchildren, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1, reports The Sun.

But His Majesty has refused to grant the youngsters HRH titles.

“Harry and Meghan were worried about the security issue and being prince and princess brings them the right to have certain levels of royal security,” a source told The Sun.

The source said Harry and Meghan had been insistent Archie and Lilibet are prince and princess since the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

“But they have been left furious that Archie and Lilibet cannot take the title HRH,” the source explained.

"That is the agreement – they can be prince and princess but not HRH because they are not working royals.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex agreed not to use their His and Her Royal Highness titles after leaving the royal family and moving to the United States two years ago. The late Queen also ruled that Harry and Meghan must drop their lucrative “Sussex Royal” label – which the couple spent tens of thousands of pounds trademarking globally – after deciding to step down as working royals.

The couple are said to have pointed out that princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have HRH status even though they are not working royals, according to The Sun.

In his first public address since the death of his mother, Charles raised eyebrows when he expressed his love for Harry and Meghan as they “continued to build their lives overseas.”
