A funeral home in El Salvador is riding the Barbie-crazed wave by offering pink coffins themed after this summer’s hit movie.

Alpha and Omega Funeral Home, located in the city of Ahuachapan, near the border with Guatemala, is offering pink coffins with Barbie linings for those who want to continue being fans of the doll in the afterlife.

Owner Isaac Villegas explained that the funeral home already offered pink coffins, but that the Barbie movie’s success in Latin America gave him the idea to decorate the coffins with pictures of the doll and little white stars. He even launched a promotional campaign to promote his new product.

The movie’s popularity inspired entrepreneurs in Latin America to launch Barbie-themed products, including pink foods such as tacos or commercial planes with the iconic Barbie logo.

Barbie even took part in political protests in Peru, in which demonstrators used Barbie imagery to highlight political issues.

The movie, directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, premiered on July 21 and has earned more than $1 billion in worldwide box office sales, according to Comscore.

Villegas' idea has not proved unworthy. So far, he has sold 10 pink Barbie boxes, despite the local preference for darker coffin shades, such as black, white, brown, or gray.

“We are going to have more pink coffins because people are asking for it,” he said, adding that they will keep producing muted-color coffins but will continue to ride on Barbie’s success.
