This staple Latin American and Caribbean dish can serve as an appetizer, a side dish, or a delicious snack.
Get ready to fry (and re-fry) these green plantains to make this delicious, golden, and crunchy treat.
- Green plantains
- Vegetable or canola oil
Peel the plantain and slice it crosswise into 1-inch pieces.
In a skillet, heat the oil medium—use enough oil to cover the plantain rounds. When the oil is hot enough to fry, add the round plantain slices. Fry for about one minute or until they begin to turn golden.
Remove the plantains from the oil. Use the bottom of a flat cup to press each round slice of plantain until it is flat. Continue until you have completed this with all slices.
Add the flattened plantain sliced back to the pan and fry for 1-2 minutes of until golden. Remove from heat and transfer to a plate lined with paper towels.
Season with salt.
