U.S. Border Patrol agents were allegedly attacked by two undocumented migrants who swam around the Pacific Ocean barrier, a video shared on TikTok shows.
The incident took place at around 5:10 p.m. on Sunday near California’s Imperial Beach, where many undocumented immigrants have crossed the U.S.-Mexico border by “swimming around the International Boundary Maritime primary fencing,” a Customs and Border Protection spokesperson said Wednesday.
The video clip of the confrontation was shared by Congresswoman Mayra Flores on her Instagram account.
"The video I posted yesterday is just a small example of what our brave men and women of CBP deal with on a daily basis," Flores told the Examiner. "Left without any support by this administration and thanks to their open border policies, disrespect and misconduct toward our law enforcement officials have reached alarming levels."
The footage shows a shirtless man being held down by a border patrol officer, while another one is shouting and picking a fight with another officer.
The officer keeps swinging a baton to keep the man away. A second officer comes to assist him but is unable to do much until a third officer finally tackles the migrant without him noticing.
“As agents attempted to take both migrants into custody, the migrants actively resisted and assaulted the agents,” a CBP spokesperson told The New York Post. “During the confrontation, the agents deployed less-lethal devices.
Throughout the video, shouting and whistling can be heard coming from the Mexican side of the border in Tijuana.
The two men were taken into custody. They were identified as Mexican nationals, aged 17 and 20.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection told the Examiner that they are investigating the incident along with the FBI.
“We will review all available facts of the incident to determine what federal response is warranted,” a spokesperson for the FBI’s San Diego Field Office said. “As this is an ongoing matter, we have no further comment.”
