A shooting in downtown Sacramento early Sunday left six people dead and at least 12 wounded, police said.

Authorities did not offer many details, except to say shooting occurred in the vicinity of a nightclub.

Video posted on social media showed people running through the street as the sound of gunfire could be heard.

Sacramento Police Chief Kathy Lester said the shooting  occurred around 2 a.m. and police don’t know whether one or more suspects were involved.

This is “a very complex and complicated scene,” she told The Associated Press as she asked for the public’s help.

Numerous ambulances were sent to the scene, and officials said a “large police presence will remain and the scene remains active.”
