A horrified Los Angeles mother found a woman’s dead body wrapped in plastic in her son’s room on Sunday, prompting police to launch a homicide investigation.

At around 1 a.m. in a home in the 2200 block of Wall Street in southwest Los Angeles, a mom entered her son’s bedroom to investigate a “distinct gas smell,” coming from it. However, nothing could prepare her for what she found. Inside her son’s room was what appeared to be a body.

The unidentified mother immediately called the police to report what she had found. When they arrived, police officers found the body of a woman wrapped in plastic.

Paramedics responding to the scene declared the woman dead on the spot.

Officials with the L.A. County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 30-year-old Hannah Rachel Collins, reported KTLA. It is unclear what led to her death or how long she had been in the room before she was discovered.

Police launched a homicide investigation to determine how the woman died, reported the Los Angeles Times.

There have been no arrests as of Monday evening, according to a police spokesperson. Authorities are looking for the son, who was only identified as a 26-year-old Hispanic man.

"He is not under arrest, but investigators are looking for him," the spokesperson added.
