A Los Angeles mother admitted to killing three of her seven children on Mother’s Day with the help of her 16-year-old son, the police said.
Police responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon on Sunday at around 7:40 a.m. in the 22500 block of Victory Boulevard in the West Hills of LA.
When they arrived, they found the three victims, Natalie, 12, Nathan, 8, and Kevin, 10. The police said that the children had been dead for several hours. Flores confessed to killing her children with the help of her older son.
"The children's mother, 38-year-old Angela Flores, and a 16-year-old subject were detained for further investigation," police said in a statement. "During the subsequent investigation, Flores admitted to killing her children with the assistance of the 16-year-old subject."
The children’s cause of death was not released. However, neighbors told CBSLA that Flores had been acting strange the night before. They told the news outlet that she was heard screaming, praying, and lighting candles at their homes.
“I heard someone screaming, ‘My family is abusing me,’ and all kinds of nonsense. I couldn’t make out what it was.” Neighbor Priscila Canales said. “I guess at that time she was in our neighbor’s yard … burning a candle and she had the Bible out.”
Authorities have not yet stated how the children died. Her other children were not harmed, as they live with their father out of state.
“The deaths of these three children are truly horrific and tragic. As a parent and a grandparent, I send my heartfelt condolences to the people who love them,” LA County District Attorney George Gascon said in a statement.
“We will continue to work with Los Angeles police detectives and my prosecutors will make a filing decision once they have reviewed all of the evidence,” he added.
Angela Flores, 38, was arrested and taken to the Van Nuys Jail on Sunday on three counts of murder for killing her children. Her bail is set to $6 million. Her 16-year-old son was arrested on one count of murder and was taken to Sylmar Juvenile Hall.
