Former late-night talk show host Jay Leno suffered serious burns over the weekend after a car in his garage caught on fire in his Los Angeles home.

“I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet,” the comedian and former “Tonight Show” host told Variety on Monday morning.

Leno, an avid car collector, was in the garage of his home working on a car on Sunday when, suddenly, one of his cars burst into flames.

Sources told TMZ that the left side of Leno’s face and his hands were burned. Thankfully, however, the flames didn’t “penetrate his eye or his ear.”

Leno, 72, is recovering at the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles, where he is in stable condition.

“Jay Leno is in stable condition and he’s receiving treatment here at the burn center to his face and his hands from a gasoline accident in his garage over the weekend,” the hospital told KTLA in a statement.

He “is in good humor and is touched by all the inquiries into his condition and well-wishes and he wants to let everyone know he’s doing well and that he’s in the ‘best burn center in the United States,'” the hospital continued.

Leno was supposed to appear at The Financial Brand conference on Sunday, however, organizers said he had a “very serious medical emergency” that prevented him from going.

Leno was the host of “The Tonight Show” from 1992 to 2009. He then left the show to start his own NBC primetime talk show, “The Jay Leno Show.” However, he was later reinstated as host of “The Tonight Show” in March 2010 due to poor ratings. He hosted the program for another four years until he officially retired from it.
