House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, attacked in San Francisco home invasion

The assailant is in custody and the motivation for the attack is under investigation

Paul Pelosi, the husband of Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was reportedly attacked inside the couple’s San Francisco home in California early Friday morning, according to multiple news reports.

The House Speaker’s Office released a statement announcing the incident and reporting that Paul Pelosi, an investor, is expected to make a full recovery.

Early this morning, an assailant broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco and violently assaulted Mr. Pelosi,” read the statement authored by Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill. 

“The assailant is in custody and the motivation for the attack is under investigation.  Mr. Pelosi was taken to the hospital, where he is receiving excellent medical care and is expected to make a full recovery. The Speaker was not in San Francisco at the time.

The speaker was not in San Francisco at the time of the attack, according to a report aired by CNN. The couple's residence is located in the affluent Pacific Heights area of the city.

“The Speaker and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time,” the statement reads.
