Jennifer Lopez opened up about her greatest joys raising her 15-year old twins, Max and Emme, in a recent interview in which the Latina singer boasted her pride about the two coming into their own.

In an emotional interview with Vogue Mexico about her personal life, J.Lo shared stories about raising the two boys, saying, “You will always adore your children. There is an acceptance they have of you. And then as they get older, they start to wonder, 'Why are we doing this? Why is my mom doing that? Do I have to do it too?’”

The Bronx bombshell said she sees her sons’ questions as a sign they are maturing and have legitimate questions about the world and why adults make the decisions they do.

Lopez, who shares her twins with her former husband, singer Marc Anthony, compared her sons’ curiosity to her own childhood, saying her teenage years were a time of seeking exploration and answers.

“You probably remember when you were a teenager and you gave your mom a hard time,” she said. “And I don't think it's because they're not good kids. Rather they just want to know, to learn, they want answers.”

Max and Emme’s childhood is of course different than Lopez who was born in 1969 in the Castle Hill neighborhood of the Bronx, New York City’s toughest borough. Her parents, David López and Guadalupe Rodriguez were born in Puerto Rico and met after they both moved to New York City.

J.Lo’s father, David, served in the Army and then worked as a computer technician for Guardian Insurance Company while her mother, Guadalupe, sold Tupperware and then became a kindergarten teacher.

Growing up with celebrity parents and constantly being in the public eye however, has obviously given  Max and Emme a different experience than what Jenny From the Block” experienced growing up in New York City.

“I think being the child of famous parents is not something many people can understand, and I feel for [my kids] for that because they didn't choose that.”

The Latina superstar said she does her best to protect her kids from being featured in the media.

“Being judged by people that you don't even know in a way is, I think, really difficult for them to grow up and be themselves,” she said. “They know that there's a lens on them, and that's hard.”

Lopez said that while her life choices as a celebrity affect her children, those challenges can make their family stronger.

She described this time in her life as “a phenomenal year” and added that it's been “my best year I think since my kids were born.”

Lopez surprised the world last year when she suddenly married actor Ben Affleck in Las Vegas on July 16. The couple subsequently held a special wedding ceremony and celebration for family and friends.

The couple have multiple residences in Bel Air, Miami and New York but primarily live in a 14,000 square foot mansion in Beverly Hills, California.
