Alicia Silverstone isn't 'Clueless' about parenting, opens up about being a mom

Alicia Silverstone says she isn’t ‘Clueless’ about parenting.

The 45-year old talked about her attachment parenting decisions on “The Ellen Fisher Podcast” Tuesday, and her 11-year old son, Bear Blue.

“Bear and I still sleep together,” the ‘Blast from the Past’ star revealed.

She mused that she may “get in trouble for” her comment, but then laughed, “I don’t really care.”  

Silverstone also discussed what she termed “elimination communication” parenting strategies to raise her son, and said she didn’t use many diapers when training him as a toddler to go to the bathroom.

Instead, she just “watch[ed] his cues” to get a sense of when he needed to go.

“It’s so awesome. It’s so easy,” she explained. “When I was done feeding him, he would go to the bathroom in the toilet. When he woke up from a nap, he went to the bathroom.

“There was a period of time where I was watching him naked and watching the cues,” she added. “The cues part for me was really fun because I thought that he was flirting with me because he would do this little smile. That’s when he had to pee.”

Silverstone’s ex-husband, musician Christopher Jarecki initially had doubts about her ideas, calling them, “hippie s—t.” But in time, the S.T.U.N. lead singer said he “loved” the process.

Silverstone, who has shared her animal rights activist work with both Bear and Jarecki has been outspoken about her “alternative” parenting choices including bathing and sleeping with bear and also raising him as a vegan.

The former Golden Globe nominee said, “I’m a natural mama, and I’m a loving mama. I believe in love, I believe in nature and our society is scared of nature and love.”

Silverstone’s affectionate nature has also come out in the close relationship she’s maintained with her ex-husband. The three reunited for a pool-party in 2020 to celebrate the 25-year anniversary of ‘Clueless.’

“They still deeply love and respect each other and remain very close friends but have mutually decided to separate after being together for 20 years,” one of her reps told the New York Post. They have a son together who they will continue to co-parent.”

The 'Clueless' star also recently celebrated the film's 27 year birthday by creating a Tik Tok video that was a tribute to her character 'Cher.'
