Three people were killed and four others were injured during a shooting in an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood early on Saturday, making it the sixth mass shooting in the state in a month, authorities said.
The shooting took place at around 2:30 a.m. at a multimillion-dollar short-term rental home in the neighborhood of Beverly Crest, which borders Beverly Hills. Police received multiple 911 reports reporting a shooting in progress, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The three people that were killed were inside a vehicle, according to Sgt. Frank Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Two of the four injured were driven to hospitals by private vehicles and the two others were transported by ambulance, said Sgt. Bruce Borihanh. Two of the victims were in critical condition, he added.
Police have opened an investigation into the shooting to determine what led to the incident. Borihanh added that, at the moment, police have no information on suspects.
"We're still interviewing additional occupants, as well as witnesses and neighbors, to try to piece together exactly what happened here," Borihanh said. "Investigators are also going door to door and looking for additional surveillance video, or any evidence that could help us."
The shooting this weekend marks the sixth mass shooting in California in less than a month. Last week, a shooting at a dance hall during the Lunar New Year festivities left 1 dead and nine wounded. In addition, two separate shootings at Half Moon Bay farms left seven dead and one wounded.
Beverly Crest is an affluent neighborhood in the Santa Monica Mountains. The property at which the shooting took place is estimated to cost around $3 million.
