Edson Arantes do Nascimento, considered by many to be the greatest soccer player of all time, passed away on Thursday at 82 years old. The Brazilian soccer legend, known as Pelé, is the only player in history to have won three World Cups, the first when he was a teenager.

The "King of Soccer" had been battling cancer, as well as kidney and heart problems. Pelé was hospitalized after a sudden downturn in his health on November 29 and had been receiving regular hospital care since September 2021, after he had a colon tumor removed.

Pelé is considered to be one of the greatest soccer players of all time. He is the only player in history to have won three World Cups: in 1958, 1962, and 1970. During the 1958 World Cup, he became the youngest scorer in World Cup history, with two goals at the age of 17 years and 249 days.

During his career, he played as a striker for the Brazilian national team, Santos, and the New York Cosmos. Pelé was the all-time leading scorer for the Brazilian national team, with 77 goals in 92 games. After his playing career, Pelé held various positions, including that of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.
