Edson Arantes do Nascimiento, better known as Pelé, sent an emotional message to his fans on Saturday, who have been following the decline of his health after the former Brazilian soccer player was admitted on Tuesday to the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital to undergo new chemotherapy for colon cancer.

Through his Instagram account, Pelé published a medical statement that states that he is in stable condition. "He has also had a good response to care for respiratory infections, with no worsening in the last 24 hours," the statement says.

The three-time world champion urged his fans to keep calm and remain positive about the news about his health.

"My friends, I want everyone to be calm and positive. I am strong, very hopeful and I am continuing my treatment as usual," reads the beginning of the text. "I want to thank the entire medical and nursing team for all the care I have received."

"I have a lot of faith in God and every message of love I receive from you all over the world keeps me full of energy. And seeing Brazil in the World Cup too!" he added.

In the comments, he received messages of support from the Brazilian Football Confederation and the Brazilian multi-sports club Santos Football Club. Likewise, former players Kaka and Denílson, among other personalities, sent their best wishes.

On Saturday morning, the Brazilian legend was reportedly receiving palliative care after failing to respond to the chemotherapy treatment he has been undergoing since September last year, when his colon cancer was detected.
