A truck driver died on Monday afternoon after being attacked with stones when he tried to cross a group of truck drivers protesting over the lack of diesel on Provincial Route 65, five kilometers from the city of Daireaux, Argentina.
The victim was identified as Guillermo Andrés Jara, a 45-year-old employee of Transporte Segovia. He had left for work on Monday morning and was on his way to deliver a load when he was surprised by the protest, reported the Argentine newspaper La Mañana de Bolívar.
Jara had tried to evade the obstruction, ignoring the truckers' order to stop the truck, and continued on his way towards the town of Laguna Alsina.
The victim was pursued by the demonstrators who, on board a white Fiat Strada pick-up truck, caught up with him kilometers ahead and began to throw stones at him. One of the stones allegedly hit him, causing him to lose control of the truck, the newspaper continues.
The images published on social networks show the truck driven by Jara on the side of the road, completely destroyed and with a hole in the windshield from one of the stones.
Jara was taken to Dr. PM Romanazzi Municipal Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Judicial sources assure that three people have already been arrested after the aggression. All of them were truck drivers from the Daireaux area, according to Infobae.
In the last few days, there have been reports of protests by truckers demanding a normal supply of diesel oil, in the midst of a nationwide shortage of this supply.
The Federación Argentina de Entidades Empresarias de Autotransporte de Cargas (FADEEAC) revealed that there are already 23 provinces in Argentina where cargo transports have difficulties obtaining fuel.
