The Wells Fargo Vice President of operations in India was fired after he was arrested for allegedly urinating on a woman during an Air India flight.
Shankar Mishra, the Wells Fago VP at the Mumbai corporate headquarters, allegedly got drunk on board a November 26 flight from New York to New Delhi. During the flight, Mishra urinated on a 72-year-old woman who was seated next to him in business class, according to Deutsche-Welle.
After the incident, Mishra allegedly offered to have her clothes and bag dry-cleaned. The 72-year-old victim, however, reportedly returned the money and filed a complaint with the airline asking to have Mishra arrested and to keep him away from her for the rest of the flight.
“[The crew] brought the offender before me against my wishes, and we were made to sit opposite each other in the crew seats,” the woman said, according to the India Times.
When Mishra sobered up, he apologized and begged the woman not to file a complaint. He successfully persuaded the woman not to have him arrested, according to reports.
Mishra was arrested on Saturday in the southern city of Bengaluru after being on the run for several days, according to New Delhi Police spokesperson Suman Nalva. He was sentenced to 14 days in prison while they investigate the complaint. If convicted, he can face up to three years in prison.
Wells Fargo said in a statement that the company “holds employees to the highest standards of professional and personal behavior and we find these allegations deeply disturbing.”
“Air India has taken a very serious view of the incident, where a passenger behaved in an unacceptable and undignified manner on the New York-Delhi flight that caused extreme distress to a fellow passenger,” an Air India spokesperson said.
