Several companies have canceled contracts and projects with the Mexican singer Pablo Montero after he sang at Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s birthday party, said the singer’s lawyer Mariana Gutiérrez.
Gutiérrez did not specify which of how many companies canceled Montero’s contracts. However, she did say that the companies are holding talks with the record label to decide on the matter.
"There are already some cancellations of contracts and events because he sang for Maduro. Since it is a matter of international politics there have been certain consequences in this regard," said the lawyer.
Montero did not inform his staff that he would be traveling to Venezuela to attend Maduro’s birthday.
"He handled it very discreetly, we had no knowledge of it until now," the lawyer continued. "He said he was going to visit his daughters and we believed him."
Gutiérrez confessed that Montero's team "is worried about his Mexican audience, the media, and contracts. But he went to do a job and represented Mexican music abroad. It was not the best thing to do, but these are work situations that happen to us".

Pablo Montero responds to criticism
The singer of “Gata Salvaje” replied to the accusations by issuing a press statement.
"Regarding my participation at the Miraflores Palace in Venezuela, where other singers were also present for President Nicolás Maduro’s event, I would like to state that as an artist I have no party or flag other than Mexican music, which is universal, besides the fact that the mariachi of Mexico is a cultural heritage of humanity," reads the text.
He added that he does not get involved in Venezuela's internal conflicts and hopes that the country will soon be able to resolve its problems peacefully.
"I appreciate your interest in the matter and we will continue working after these very difficult times for everyone," he concluded.
