Heavy snows and rainy conditions are expected on the U.S. West coast this week, bringing a chance of a white Christmas. Forecasters warn that holiday travel could be affected.
Over the weekend, a large storm could bring snow to Washington, Oregon, and Northern California.
California placed a winter storm warning on Tuesday. Northern California will see rain and snow from Wednesday to Friday. Rain could spread as far as Southern California.
Meanwhile, the Sierra Nevada mountains could see snow of up to five feet, even reaching 10 feet at certain places, according to meteorologists at the Sacramento National Weather Service office. The heavy snow and wind gusts of over 60 mph could make travel difficult. Major routes could be affected.
"Travel across the Sierra will be difficult to impossible at times through the holiday weekend," the Reno weather service office said.
