Wall Street opened Tuesday morning with sharp gains amid apparent optimism that the U.S. and its worldwide trade partners can reach deals ahead of President Trump's global tariffs that take effect at midnight.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rebounded 1,000 points after Wall Street's opening bell and the S&P 500 rose 3.4%.

The gains were anticipated after Asian and European markets rebounded overnight and U.S. futures edged up before Wall Street began trading. The gains follow big losses last week that were triggered over investor uncertainty about Trump's global, across-the-board tariffs.
