The gunman who killed six Walmart employees in Virginia on Tuesday left a note on his phone explaining why he carried out the massacre and outlining his grievances in life, authorities said on Friday.
The note talks about how Walmart supervisor Andre Bing felt mocked by coworkers at work and was influenced by Satan to buy the 9mm handgun used in the shooting that same morning, the Chesapeake Police Department said.
“Sorry everyone but I did not plan this. I promise things just fell in place like I was led by Satan,” Bing, 31, wrote on the note.
“The associates gave me evil twisted grins, mocked me, and celebrated my downfall the last day. That’s why they suffer the same fate as me,” wrote Bing, who fatally shot himself at the scene.
“I wish I could have saved everyone from myself,” the note continues. “My God forgive me for what I’m going to do.”
It is unclear when the note was written, however, Bing includes multiple anecdotes of what he believes were harassment incidents carried out by his coworkers. He adds that they were intentionally sabotaging his life.
Witnesses claimed that Bing specifically targeted some of those coworkers during the shooting.
“The way he was acting — he was going hunting," said Jessica Wilczewski, who was spared by Bing. "The way he was looking at people’s faces and the way he did what he did, he was picking people out.”
Some of the Walmart employees that survived the incident said Bing was known for being hostile with fellow employees and wasn’t well-liked in the workplace. Others claimed he had “anger issues.”
“I don’t think he had many people to fall back on in his personal life,” said Nathan Sinclair, who used to work at Walmart.
“My only wish would have been to start over from scratch and that my parents would have paid closer attention to my social deficits.” Bing wrote in his note.
