Surveillance footage captured shows a man trying to kidnap a barista through the store’s drive-thru window on Monday in Auburn, Alabama.

The incident took place at around 5 a.m. at a drive-thru coffee shop in the 2200 block of Auburn Way in Auburn, police said.

The video footage shows the female barista handing the male driver some change when he suddenly grabs her hand and forcefully pulls her towards him. The suspect then “attempted to drag the victim through the window using a looped zip tie device,” the police said.

The woman managed to pull her arm back and close the window, locking herself in and prompting the aggressive customer to drive away. The victim suffered minor cuts to her arm

On Tuesday at 11:15 a.mAuburn police spokesman Kolby Crossley said they had arrested the suspect after receiving “overwhelming support from the community.”

The man was arrested at his home, where investigators were able to find evidence that linked him to the incident. The suspect is still being questioned and will be booked into jail for attempted kidnapping.

The barista was working at the shop alone at the time of the incident, police said.

“They are in vulnerable positions because they’re usually controlling those spots by themselves at early hours in the morning when it’s dark outside. But this barista did an awesome job of protecting herself and fighting this person off,” said Crossley.
