VIDEO: 5 shot, 3 killed in shooting at Chicago drag racing event that took over an intersection

Five people were shot, three of them fatally, on Sunday during a caravan event that involved around 100 cars in the Southwest Side of Chicago, police said. 

The shooting happened in the 4300 block of South Kedzie Avenue in Brighton Park neighborhood at around 4 a.m., according to police. 

Police said they responded to calls reporting over 100 cars that had taken over the Archer and Kedzie intersections, where the automobiles were performing drifting stunts, such as donut circles. 

Videos of the event show spectators and participants on the streets watching the reckless drivers, when suddenly shots are fired and the crowd starts running. Police say at least 13 rounds were fired. 

"It was just jampacked with cars. All directions, all four directions. Kedzie, Archer, it was a dead stop. People were sitting on top of their cars, watching people spin out there," said Darrel Cross, a resident who lives above a business nearby. 

"I just hear pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop and, shoosh, I'm gone," he added. 

Four male shooting victims transported themselves to Holy Cross and Mount Sinai Hospitals. Two of the men, 21 and 19, are in serious condition but are expected to recover. 

The three victims that died, two 20-year-olds and another whose age is unknown, were affiliated with a gang, police said. 

Police have not yet recovered any weapons and have not made any arrests in connection to the incident. Authorities are looking for the suspect or suspects.

“There’s probably up to one or two people that we’re still looking to speak to…not necessarily those in the hospital,” Chicago Police Commander Don Jerome said at a press conference on Sunday.
