US Tennis sees 90 percent rise in Hispanic players since 2020
USTA said that participation has increased by 90% among Hispanic players, 46% among Black players, and 37% among Asian players since 2020

US Tennis has seen a significant rise in participation due to the increase of Hispanic, Black, and Asian players, the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) said on Thursday.
USTA said that participation has increased by 90% among Hispanic players, 46% among Black players, and 37% among Asian players since 2020, according to information from the Physical Activity Council Study on Sports and Physical Activity survey by Sports Marketing Surveys USA and the Tennis Industry Association Participation and Engagement Study.
There were more than 23.6 million people who played tennis in 2022—a significant 33% increase compared to 2020, USTA added.
"One of the goals of the USTA is to make tennis 'look like America' and to do that we need to help make tennis available to people from all walks of life, in all communities," USTA chairman of the board and president Brian Hainline said in the group's news release.
The rise of Hispanics in US tennis comes as several Latin American tennis players are rising in the worldwide rankings and tournaments such as the ATP tour and WTA. Some of the most well-known players include: Diego Schwartzman, Francisco Cerundolo, Sebastian Baez, and Horacio Zeballos from Argentina; Alejandro Tabilo and Cristian Garin from Chile; and Jan Sebastian Cabal, Robert Farah, and Camila Osorio from Colombia.
