An unruly passenger on board a Delta Air Lines flight was arrested on Wednesday in Louisiana after he allegedly injured a flight attendant and himself with a sharp object, authorities said.

Passenger Nelson Montgomery, 39, was on board Delta Flight 2432 going from Atlanta to New Orleans. During the flight, Montgomery put a flight attendant in a chokehold and threatened her with what appeared to be a piece of broken glass, according to witnesses who chose to remain anonymous.

Montgomery threatened to “cut her head off” if anyone got close to him. At the time of the incident, Montgomery was bleeding from his neck, a witness said.

“Montgomery was subdued by several passengers and held until deputies arrived at the aircraft to arrest him,” the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

He was arrested at Louis Armstrong International Airport in Kenner, Louisiana at around 4 p.m., the sheriff’s office added.

“He was treated at a local hospital for injuries that are not considered life-threatening,” the statement continued.

Montgomery was charged with aggravated battery, disturbing the peace, and simple battery, the sheriff’s office said. His motive is not immediately clear.

The flight attendant involved in the incident suffered minor injuries, which were treated at the scene by paramedics. Two other individuals on the plane also suffered minor injuries related to the incident.

“Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behavior on our aircraft and in our airports,” the Delta spokesperson said.
