Former President Donald Trump said that he has come to a decision about running for president in 2024 but hasn’t decided how to time the announcement.

“Look, I feel very confident that, if I decide to run, I’ll win,” he said in a New York Magazine interview released Thursday.

When pressed by interview Olivia Nuzzi on his use of “if I decide,” the former president told her he had already decided.

“Well, in my own mind, I’ve already made that decision, so nothing factors in anymore,” said Trump.

“In my own mind, I’ve already made that decision,” he repeated in his trademark manner of speaking.

The Republican icon would not say what his decision was but could not help dancing around it.

“I would say my big decision will be whether I go before or after,” he said, referring to the midterm elections.

Sources close to Trump told New York Magazine that Trump was “100 percent going to announce on the Fourth of July” but his family and Republican leaders Lindsey Graham and Kevin McCarthy were against it over fears it might derail the midterms, where the GOP is forecast to retake the House of Representatives.

When asked about the rumor, Trump called declaring on Independence Day “amateurish.”

“I don’t think I have to compete with that,” he told Nuzzi.

“First of all, a lot of people aren’t around on the Fourth of July. It’s not a great time to do an announcement… I never said I was going to. That was just fake news.”

The former president brushed off Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, denying he even considered him a rival.

But Trump recruited Susie Wiles, a Florida political operative who chaired DeSantis’s reelection campaign, to be the CEO of his political action committee. The Florida governor she helped get elected reportedly got Wiles fired from the 2020 Trump campaign by accusing her of being a leaker, but she reconnected with Trump as his relationship with DeSantis soured.
