Three students dead in school shooting in north Detroit, others injured

The shooting at the Oxford High School in Oakland, Detroit took place just before 1:00 p.m.

Three students were killed Tuesday in a shooting shooting at Oxford High School in Oakland, Detroit. A suspected shooter has been taken into custody and officials have recovered a handgun. Several others also have been injured in the attack, according to authorities.

The school is on lockdown and emergency protocols have been activated. EMS and SWAT teams are also onsite, as well as multiple medical helicopters. Parents have been told to avoid the school an instead retrieve their children from a nearby evacuation point.

At least one student was shot in the face and four others were injured, according to police. No fatalities have been reported.

The shooting reportedly occurred around 12:55 p.m. in the section of the school where history classes are taught. 

"This afternoon there was an active shooter at Oxford High School,” district officials said in a message to parents. “Oakland County Sheriff’s Department has secured the scene. 

"Oxford High School students and staff are systematically being evacuated to the Meijer Garden Center and may be picked up there. Any students with their own transportation have been allowed to leave. All other district schools are in lockdown for safety purposes and are in no danger."
