Republican State Representative-elect Monica De La Cruz blasted “The View” and its Wednesday guest, actor John Leguizamo, for a discussion where the panel agreed that Latinos were “not as media savvy” and fell for GOP “fear tactics” and “trigger words.”

"Hispanics are hard-working, patriotic, and smart – yes, including those who vote differently," De La Cruz posted to Twitter on Thursday. "It is disappointing when celebrities dismiss nuestra gente as gullible or not 'media savvy' because of our diversity. Do better, guys."

The newly elected Texas Latina was referring to a discussion on the show about the impact of the Latino vote. The group celebrated the victory of Nevada Democrat Sen. Catherin Cortez Masto but the group was concerned over Hispanics’ shift toward the Republican Party.

Co-host Sunny Hostin suggested to Leguizamo that some Latino voters were tricked by “fear tactics” and “trigger words” in GOP outreach.

"I think, what they do is that they use fear tactics towards Central Americans, South Americans, Cubans," said Hostin, who is Puerto Rican. "They start with the communism; they start with the socialism. But they’re not really addressing the issues that Latinos face. And I’m surprised that we fall for it."

“Yeah, because we’re not – we’re not as media savvy maybe as we should be,” agreed Leguizamo. “You know what I mean? As a group. So, trigger words get us. But they get White people, too. Trigger words get White people, too."

Earlier in the conversation, Leguizamo had acknowledged that the GOP had learned how to directly appeal to Hispanic voters – even better than Democrats.

“You have to come us. You have to talk about our issues. You have to knock on our doors. You can’t take us for granted and expect us to be there for you,” the actor said, responding to a question about what Americans misunderstand about Latino voters.

“The Republicans understand better and they’re coming for us. They’re putting in our Spanish radio station, on WhatsApp. They come for us and that’s why Latinos are shifting toward them. But just come for us, Democrats.”

De La Cruz flipped a Texas border seat in the midterm elections when she defeated Democrat Michelle Vallejo in the state’s 15th congressional district.
