Tre Hargett, the secretary of state of Tennessee, was charged with a DUI after he attended the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Coffee County on Friday.
The Tennessee Journal reports that Hargett attended the event "from Friday afternoon through around 11:30 p.m. when he was stopped by Tullahoma police. He was given a blood test and charged with DUI."
Hargett told the outlet that he "regret(s) the circumstances that led to my arrest."
"I respect law enforcement and will trust the legal process as we move forward," he said.
Hargett was elected by the state's General Assembly to serve the people of Tennessee in 2009, and has been reelected three times since then.
According to the secretary of state's website, Hargett "serves on 16 boards and commissions, on two of which he is the presiding member. The services and oversight found in the Secretary of State’s office reach every department and agency in state government."
He also oversees more than 300 employees and is one of three Constitutional officers elected by the assembly in joint session.
