Five people were injured in a shooting on early Sunday in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, the Charleston Police Department reported.

Police responded to a gunshot report at around 12:55 a.m. near King Street and Morris Street.

The five individuals injured were taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening gunshot wounds, said Sgt. Elisabeth Wolfsen, a spokeswoman for the department.

“Six people were initially thought to be injured by gunfire, but it has since been determined that one of those suffered an abrasion after falling, not a gunshot wound,” said Wolfsen added.

Two suspects were arrested and charged with firearms violations, continued Wolfsen. One of the suspects was identified as 20-year-old Trayvon Davis. The second individual was not named but was identified as a 16-year-old male.

"Six people were initially thought to be injured by gunfire, but it has since been determined that one of those suffered an abrasion after falling, not a gunshot wound," the statement said.

The shooting is under investigation.
