Senate Judiciary panel to vote on Jackson Supreme Court nomination Monday

The Senate Judiciary Committee will vote Monday morning to advance the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Senate floor.

However, the committee is expected to vote 11-to-11 toward advancing President Biden's nominee to a final vote, which will likely result is a series of procedural moves by Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer to set up a final vote before week's end.

Democrats must first spend additional time on the Senate floor to "discharge" Jackson's nomination from the committee, which will likely be followed by Schumer filing a procedural motion, known as cloture, that will end debate and result in the final vote.

Maine GOP Sen. Susan Collins, a moderate, has indicated she'll cast a final vote for Jackson, which would give the federal judge the 51 she needs be confirmed to the high court. 

Collins' support will allowing President Biden to tout bipartisan support for his first Supreme Court nominee.

Senate Democrats will also be spared having to use Vice President Kamala Harris' tie-breaking vote to confirm Jackson. 

Not all Democrats have announced how they will vote on Jackson's confirmation, but party cohesion is expected. Though, Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D), who has been known to break with her party at critical moments, has not yet confirmed how she will vote.
