Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said she tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday and is experiencing "mild symptoms."

"I regularly test for COVID & while I tested negative earlier this week, today I tested positive with a breakthrough case. Thankfully, I am only experiencing mild symptoms & am grateful for the protection provided against serious illness that comes from being vaccinated & boosted," the former Democratic presidential primary candidate tweeted.

She added that "as cases increase across the country" others should also get vaccinated to "save lives."

Warren joins other senators who have had breakthrough cases of COVID-19. Sens. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., Angus King, I-Maine, and John Hickenlooper, D-Colo., all tested positive in August despite being fully vaccinated.
