Democrats refuse to discuss rising inflation because it's a consequence of President Joe Biden's spending agenda, says Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donalds.
Donalds told the John Solomon Reports podcast on Tuesday's episode that "the majority in Congress doesn't want to have this conversation" on inflation.
"Nancy Pelosi doesn't want to talk about it," said Donalds. "But you have virtually every Republican member — and I'll tell you, there's even some rank-and-file Dems who want to have this conversation — but we're all blocked by Nancy Pelosi. So it's left to having this conversation in news interviews and in media.
"[W]e're much more verbose on our side of the aisle about talking about it," he continued. "The Dems don't want to talk about it because it's Joe Biden's fault. Even they know it. They tell us quietly on the side, like, 'Man, this additional spending is crazy,' but they vote for it. And they vote for it because they can't win elections without the support of Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Party — they'll lose."
Donalds also discussed Biden's $2 trillion spending bill, which he said includes "enhanced versions" of the child and earned income tax credits "where you're literally giving money to people." He added that that isn't "the role of the federal government."
There are "too many people in Washington, D.C. that have no idea how an economy actually works," he said.
Looking ahead to the 2022 midterm elections, Donalds asked voters to consider whether they're better off now than they were two years ago.
He mentioned how the country isn't safer than it was two years ago, the borders are less secure, and America isn't in a better position on the world stage.
"No matter what the situation is, Democrats have led us to a place where our country is failing," Donalds said.
Former President Donald Trump endorsed Donalds on Monday through his Save America PAC.
"Congressman Byron Donalds has been a terrific advocate for the people of Florida and our Country," Trump wrote. "He is doing a great job.
"Byron is strong on Education, a defender of the Second Amendment, fights to protect our Border, believes that America should be Energy Independent, and is dedicated to Low Taxes and a Strong Economy. He is a supporter of our America First policies and knows the importance of our Great Vets and values our important Military men and women. Byron is working hard for our Country every day. He has my Complete and Total Endorsement!"
