Police arrest man outside Capitol allegedly posing as INTERPOL agent, charged on ammo violations

A man was arrested outside the U.S. Capitol Building early Friday morning after presenting police with a fake police badge, according to federal authorities.

The incident unfolded at about 5 a.m. when U.S. Capitol Police officers started talking to the man who had parked his 2017 Dodge Charger on the West side of the Capitol, the department said in a Twitter post.

The man, identified as Jerome Felipe, out of Flint, Michigan, allegedly presented the officers with the badge that had "Department of the INTERPOL" printed on it and made a false statement about being a criminal investigator with the agency.

A subsequent search of the vehicle, to which the 53-year-old Felipe agreed, uncovered a BB gun, two ballistic vests, several high-capacity gun magazines and other ammunition. However, no real guns were found, police also said. 

Felipe is facing charges for unlawful possession of high-capacity magazines and unregistered ammunition.
