Video recorded by a Jan. 6 protester shows a confrontation at the U.S. Capitol between two Republican congressmen and a large group of angry demonstrators who were pushing to unlawfully enter the House floor.

The recording, which was first obtained by NBC News from a records request, was captured by Damon Beckley, a defendant facing federal charges for his involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021 riots.

It was used as evidence before Beckley’s Feb. 9 sentencing hearing in which Assistant U.S. Attorneys are seeking more than three years of federal incarceration.

The recording depicts video of demonstrators gathered at a door to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. The demonstrators were looking through shattered glass as Capitol police officers had their weapons drawn on them.

The video also captured two Republican congressmen from the Midwest, then-Rep. Markwayne Mullin, an Oklahoma Republican, and Rep. Troy Nehls from Texas admonishing the group through the glass.

“You ought to be ashamed of yourself,” Mr. Nehls said. “I’ve been in law enforcement in Texas for 30 years, and I’ve never had people act this way. I’m ashamed.”

Audio captured on the video depict the demonstrators outside saying “they can only kill so many of us” warning that there would be a “bigger Civil War and a lot of bloodshed” if the 2020 presidential election results were not reversed because they believed it was stolen.

“If we’ve got to hang a bunch of crooked congressmen, we’ll do that,” one demonstrator said.

Rep. Nehls has criticized the Jan. 6 protestors and said those who illegally entered the U.S. Capitol acted in a way that was “criminal.”
