A suspect was arrested after allegedly making a mass shooting threat on that cancelled the summer school classes at least eight Missouri school districts on Wednesday, according to the Blue Springs Police Department.

Police received a report of a suspicious Snapchat post with a comment threatening to “killing people—mass murdering” at around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

While the post did not mention a specific school that was being targeted, police described it as a “very general threat.”

With a threat looming, the Blue Springs School District, which serves over 14,000 students, announced that it would cancel Wednesday’s school activities.

"We believe the best course of action is to close our summer school sites and all school programming until further notice," the school said.

Other school districts in the area, including the nearby Fort Osage School District, also closed their schools.

Blue Springs Police Sgt. Keegan Hughes said the suspect is a 19-year-old man from Blue Springs, adding that he was identified with the help of the FBI. The individual was taken into custody on Wednesday morning, the police department said in a statement.

Formal charges against the suspect have not yet been announced by the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office. However, Hughes said the suspect could be charged with making terroristic threats. Police are also waiting for search warrants to search the man’s home.

Police said that there was no further danger to the public after his arrest.
