Maryland voters went to the polls Tuesday to ballot in several key races that will help determine which major political party controls Congress after November – with longtime Maryland Democrats including Sen. Chris Van Hollen and Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger cruising to an easy, early victories.

However, who will be their Republican challengers in the General Election as of late Tuesday night was still-too-close-to call in many races, with the counting of mail-in ballots, which doesn't start until Thursday morning, expected to determine many outcomes.

The Associated Press called the race for Ruppersberger with 73.6% of the vote as polls close in his 2nd Congressional District race.

The wire service called the race for Van Hollen at about the same with with the first-term senator and former congressman having roughly 78% of the vote.
